Artificial Grass for Playgrounds and Parks
23rd August 2010
Durable and safe, artificial grass is being installed in playgrounds at schools and parks across the country.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), each year an estimated 200,000 children are treated in hospital emergency rooms for playground equipment-related injuries; 60 percent of these injuries are the result of falls to the ground, underscoring that the most critical safety factor on playgrounds is protective surfacing such as artificial grass playground turf.
To prevent injuries from falling, the CPSC recommends that all fall zones in playgrounds and parks should be covered with a protective surfacing material. These materials must possess the ability to absorb shock during a fall as well as wear and environmental conditions. The ProPlay Series artificial playground turf is designed with these guidelines in mind.
The ProPlay Series is one of the safest and most durable artificial lawn surfaces available on the market today. Ideal for playgrounds, ProPlay is manufactured using soft and forgiving Polyethylene. This amazing material is tough enough to withstand the stress of heavy-duty-all-weather use, yet gentle enough to protect children from impact injuries.
Traditional protective surfacing material recommended by the CPSC includes wood chips, fine sand, double shredded bark mulch and fine gravel. However, the 100 percent crumb rubber infill of the ProPlay Series offers a safer surface than these loose-fill materials.
Along with offering a safe and durable surface for playgrounds, another benefit to artificial grass is cost. Artificial grass is affordable and easy to maintain, eliminating the need for watering, weeding, mowing and other maintenance costs.

Artificial Turf – Is Synthetic Grass Right for Your Lawn?
21st July 2010
Synthetic grass is getting more and more popular, but is it the right choice for your yard? After all, you do not want your yard to look like a football stadium! If you’re thinking about installing residential artificial grass, you need to start by asking yourself these four questions:
Do I spend too much time maintaining my yard?
Between mowing, watering, and fertilizing, taking care of your lawn can be awfully time-consuming. With residential artificial grass, you can stop taking care of your yard and start enjoying it. That’s because an artificial grass lawn takes no effort to look well-groomed. It never needs to be cut or watered. And, thanks to new technology, synthetic grass looks and feels just like the real thing.
Do I want to help the environment?
For every hour you spend watering your yard, you are using hundreds of gallons of water. With an artificial grass lawn, you do not have to worry about watering it. Think of how much water you could conserve just by installing synthetic grass!
Plus, an artificial grass lawn doesn’t need any pesticides. By installing synthetic grass, you can stop dangerous chemicals from being released into the air. There is no better way to ‘go green’ than to install artificial turf in your yard!
Do I want to avoid the wrath of Mother Nature?
With real grass, you have to deal with brown spots in your yard during the scorching heat of summer. Then, once you nurse it back to health, you wind up with dead patches during the winter. But an artificial grass lawn will not fall victim to the elements.
Do I want to stop paying for upkeep on my lawn?
Once you install an artificial grass lawn, you do not have to worry about it or spend money on it. You will never have to buy more sod or more seed. You will never have to pay for new yard tools or pay a lawn service again. Artificial turf is a one-time investment.
Mezzanines for Your Business
25th June 2010
Whether you run a retail clothing store or manufacturing facility, it may be time to expand your operations to accommodate your growing company. However, you may not be ready to purchase another location or larger facility. The cost-effective solution to creating extra work space without having to move locations is installing a steel mezzanine.
A steel mezzanine is an economical way to create a second-level floor from unused overhead air space. Designed to maximize your workspace, mezzanines can be installed over existing equipment or stored items with a minimum of support columns to avoid using up valuable floor space.
Pre-engineered mezzanines are designed to meet your specific workspace needs and load requirements so that you can add a second level to suit your growing business. For example, you can easily add a second level to your retail store and feature more clothing racks or an entire new clothing line. Multi-level mezzanines are also ideal solutions for industrial workspaces. They can be built with double decks, conveyor systems and shelving units to accommodate your facility.
Mezzanines are safe for both employees and customers. Structures are built to comply with all required building codes as well as specifications demanded in seismically active zones. With safe and durable stairs, handrails and gates, you can easily add a second story to your store or facility without having to worry about stability or function for your customers or employees.
Recycling of Synthetic Turf
21st June 2010
One of the benefits that synthetic turf grass offers is that it can be a “greener” alternative to natural grass fields. That might seem like an odd statement; after all, plants seem like they should be much better for the environment than their synthetic alternatives. However, synthetic fields from just one company, FieldTurf, has given over five million used tires a new home, saved over 675 million gallons of H2O that would have otherwise been used to water natural grass, and prevented over 6.6 million pounds of pesticides from being released into the environment.
FieldTurf has now shown another way that the industry can make the use of commercial and residential artificial grass a very green practice. For the first time, an old artificial turf was recycled, with the materials to be used in a new turf system. The field came from War Memorial Stadium in the state of Arkansas. The stadium decided to upgrade their field to the newest synthetic lawn turf. The old field will be shredded by FieldTurf so that the materials can be reused.
While there have been concerns over the materials used in artificial turf leeching into the surrounding environment and the water table, assessments by several states and the EPA has determined that the material is safe to use. It is an industry that is committed to environmental issues, even as they’re creating artificial landscaping. The recycling of old field products shows that the industry itself has taken a step forward in preserving nature.
High School Sports Fields
14th June 2010
These days, it’s not at all unusual to attend a professional sports game and see the teams playing on synthetic grass rather than natural. Artificial turf has come a long way from the early days when it was little more than a thin carpet over concrete. Today’s turf has a much more natural feel and is far safer for the players, making it a viable alternative to natural grass.
However, not all of the athletic teams who buy artificial turf are playing on the professional level. More and more high schools are looking into replacing their natural sports fields with artificial ones. The Great Western Ohio Conference boasts a 50% rate for synthetic turf, with eight of the sixteen schools scheduled to play on artificial fields this fall. The latest will be Piqua High School, who had a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, June 18.
Investing in fake lawn materials for a high school field can be expensive. The Piqua High School project is projected to have a total price tag of $600,000 (the money is coming from private donors). However, the investment is one that can pay off for these schools. Because the artificial turf is more durable than its natural counterpart, the field will be able to stand up to more wear and tear. This means that where a high school may have only been able to use the field for football practice before, they will be able to put it to more extensive use without worrying about maintenance.
