Insomnia? You can sleep well with these tips
18th December 2009
The quality of sleep plays a vital role in the way the body functions. The body that gets adequate sleep is more likely to perform at a satisfactory level than that which is not well rested. Since sleep is of such importance, it is necessary to take steps to eliminate insomnia, which has become a common problem in the lives of many.
One should avoid anything that will interfere with sleep prior to retiring to bed. He should discontinue the intake of caffeine and other stimulants around mid-afternoon. Additionally, exercising should not be done just before bedtime, allowing the body to calm down.
A warm bath is a proven way of relaxing the body. Adding a little lavender oil to the water induces sleep more rapidly. The scent of lavender is famous for enhancing relaxation and is no doubt useful in combating insomnia.
If, despite lying in bed for a long period of time, it is still difficult to fall asleep, better get up and engage in activities that will aid in the relaxation of the body. You can drink chamomile tea, which can effectively soothe the nerves and promote relaxation. You can also practice deep breathing to help you relax.
Maintaining a schedule of retiring to bed at the same time every night, and resisting the urge of taking naps during the course of the day, will help in overcoming insomnia. This will train the body to relax and retire when it should.
