The risks of obesity
22nd July 2011
Obesity comes with the possibility of being afflicted with illnesses. Some of them include heart disease, type 2 diabetes, breathing difficulties during sleep, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis. The lap band surgery is known for being able to help a patient lose weight and keep weight off, and it has also been shown that this system may help with a high blood pressure cure.
Another illness that comes with being overweight is sleep apnea. Individuals with sleep apnea may have high blood pressure that is either getting worse or is being perpetuated by their sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is “a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep.” Over 20 million Americans suffer from a degree of sleep apnea. A physician will be able to offer sleep apnea help if needed.
In most cases the lap band system can be covered by most PPO insurances. If the insurance doesn’t cover the lap band, there are other ways to pay for the procedure. These resources can include cash or financing. Most lap band facilities offer financing services. With healthnet lap band surgery can be covered, but, like most insurances, ask for several requirements in order to be approved for surgery.
