Uses of Bamboo
20th November 2008
While bamboo flooring is currently taking the design world by storm, bamboo has been utilized for a wide variety of uses for years, particularly in East and South East Asia.
The shoots of bamboo are actually edible by humans, although this isn’t the case for every species (the shoots cut from the species known as Giant Bamboo actually contain dangerous amounts of the poison cyanide.) Bamboo shoots can be purchased both fresh and canned in many grocery stores around the world. They are used in many broths and other dishes in Asia.
Bamboo wood can be treated to be both extremely strong and light. Because it is incredibly durable, it is an ideal material to be used in construction. A bamboo hardwood floor is also beautiful and even trendy addition to a home or office.
